New E-Stim Conductive Rubber Cord Locks

Unread post by Joanne »

Having been incredibly frustrated with the available cord locks for use with 6mm conductive rubber. I turned my hand to designing one exclusively for e-stim use.

The problem with cord locks on the market is that they are cord locks designed to hold paracord and as such, are not sized for conductive rubber. The ones I sell I buy in as 7mm cord locks, but they just fit 6mm conductive rubber. It is so frustrating to have to order them in batches of 1000, only to find some don't even fit - grrrrr.

So, I set about designing my own brand of cord locks, and I set myself some goals.
  • They need to be strong and reliable.
  • They must have holes that allow easy fitting of conductive rubber.
  • They must accept 6mm and 4mm conductive rubber.
  • They must have shameless self-branding - well, why not?
At an early stage, I decided to design a cord lock that accepts 6mm and 4mm and, if using both sizes at the same time, to allow the rubber to touch internally, creating conductive paths between the CR.

While I know that you can fit 4mm CR into a cord lock that takes 6mm CR, the spring will have expanded 2mm before it starts to grip the 4mm CR. This means it won't grip 4mm as strongly as 6mm CR. My design removes this problem.

I decided that they needed to be made from tough and durable nylon for longevity, and as that would really stretch the capabilities of my machines, I am having them made by an industrial printing company in London. They are printed using a method called SLS, where a laser is used to fuse powdered material layer by layer to create the products. This is a more expensive manufacturing method than the one I use myself, but the products are amazing.

So, without further ado, here is my design for an E-Stim Cord Lock.

No, it is a simple cord lock; you press the yellow button to open up the holes for your conductive rubber to be inserted through.
