DIY Teleprompter

Unread post by Joanne »

While I await taking over my new office and studio, I have set myself some tasks to design and build some equipment. These items are intended to make my life easier and to improve my workflow.

The first of these is a DIY Teleprompter. For those who don't know what one is, it is the sort of thing newsreaders, and politicians use when delivering speeches. An angled piece of glass allows them to read a script and from the other side of the glass, none of the text is visible.

On TV they are used for newsreaders. The camera is on the rear of a tilted piece of glass which is set at 45 degrees from horizontal. A screen is then used to show the script, and it is reflected in the glass so the newsreader can read without the camera seeing the text.

I have designed one in Fusion 360 that I am currently in the middle of printing out. I am attaching a picture to this post so you can see a rendering of the design.

The ridges down the side and over the top of the glass are so some bull-dog clips can be used to secure a piece of black cloth. This will cover the camera to keep light from reflecting off the back of the glass. It will also make a dark backdrop for the script to be seen against.

It should work a treat, and I will use a tablet PC and some free software to deliver notes I can use when producing video reviews. So, here is the design so far. The glass screen measures 300mm x 210mm.

Now that is clever, I hope you show a picture of the finished teleprompter and maybe a video of it working so we can see how it works.
